INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DEMO VERSION OF LINKSWARE.
Thank you for your interest in LinksWare™.
This demo requires a MacPlus or newer; system 6.0.5 or later and at least 2 megabytes of memory installed in your Macintosh.
LinksWare™ now supports sound files. Files of type AIFF and AIFC can be played by LinksWare™. There is nothing special required to add these files.
Your demo version is fully functional, but limited to 5 linked files. Please read the enclosed letter that came with your demo version of LinksWare for further information. Note that the XTND®/DataViz™ translators are not included with the demonstration version.
You may run LinksWare™ from the demo disk or from the hard drive.
1) To run from the hard drive, drag the LinksWare.DEMO application and the "SAMPLES" folder to your hard drive.
2) Run LinksWare.DEMO. You may see a notice that the translators are not included. If so just click OK. Next LinksWare™ will not be able to find a default file to open (since you just got it). If you do not get this message skip ahead to step 3). It will ask you if you wish to create a new one, open an existing one or install one. Choose to install an existing set by clicking on the INSTALL... button, then click the "Proceed" button and then select “sample.links” from the “Samples” folder. SKIP to Step 4).
3) If you DID NOT get the message about being unable to find the set, and a dialog box with four buttons, it means that you already have used LinksWare™ and a valid set exists on your hard drive. In order to switch to the sample set, select “Install Link Set” from the Utilities menu. You'll see a very serious looking warning message, designed to keep you from messing up an existing link-set. USE THE MOUSE to click on the "Proceed" button. (Hitting the return key will NOT install the set.) Then select “sample.links” from the “Samples” folder you just dragged on to your hard drive.
4) Now you’re all ready to go: simply select a file to open by choosing "Open..." from the File menu, as you are used to doing with Macintosh porgrams.
LinksWare™ will not be able to find a default file to open (since you just got it) and will ask you if you wish to create a new one or select an existing one. Choose to open an existing set by clicking on the SELECT button, and then select “sample.links” from the “Samples” folder.
Now you’re all ready to go: simply select a file to open by choosing "Open..." from the File menu, as you are used to doing with Macintosh programs.
To install LinksWare™ on your hard disk:
1) Drag the LinksWare™ icon and the “Samples” folder to your hard drive.
2) Run LinksWare™. You will see a notice that the translators are not included. Click OK. It will not be able to find a default file to open (since you just got it) and will ask you if you wish to create a new one or open an existing one. Choose to open an existing set by clicking on the SELECT button, and then select “sample.links” from the “Samples” folder you just dragged to your hard drive.
3) THIS IS THE IMPORTANT STEP! WITHOUT IT YOU WON'T SEE ANY LINKS:
Finally, select “Install Link Set” from the Utilities menu.
Now you’re all ready to go: simply select a file to open by choosing "Open..." from the File menu, as you are used to doing with Macintosh porgrams.
The sample files have several which begin with “aa”. This is NOT a requirement, but merely a way to get those files to the head of the list, since files are listed alphabetically. We thought you’d like to start with one of these “aaCAPITALIZED” files. For example, try opening the file “aaMEDICAL” and then clicking on the aread of the eye. (You may need to hold down the mouse button a bit, depending on the model of your Macintosh.) There is no need to choose one of these suggested files however, since you may begin anywhere.
The samples have only a few generalized links in them, just to demonstrate what is possible. Since the demo version is limited to 4 linked files, in order to try adding your own links to your own files, you’ll have to create a new set. You can do this by choosing “Create New Set...” from the Utilities menu. It will ask you for the name to be used: we suggest something simple, like “aa”, but the choice is yours. After completing this step, you’ll be able to open TEXT, PICT and PNTG files, and add links between 4 of them. If you want to play with more, you’ll have to repeat this step for the demo version. The full version of LinksWare™ can handle over 100,000 links.
